America’s Health Rankings API Terms & Conditions

America’s Health Rankings Application Programming Interface (API) provides a reliable and easy-to-use source of public health data. Whether you are a researcher, health professional, or developer, this API is a key tool for accessing the public health data. The United Health Foundation encourages the distribution of information contained in the America’s Health Rankings platform for non-commercial and charitable, educational or scientific purposes. The contract below outlines the terms of use for this tool.

Please read and consent to the terms and conditions below.

In addition to the America’s Health Rankings (“AHR”) website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, the use of this API and the data it provides is subject to the following additional terms below (“API Terms”). Capitalized terms used in these API Terms but not defined herein shall have the meaning ascribed to such terms in the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

Registration Required

You must register on the America’s Health Rankings developers website to obtain an API key before using this API. There is no cost to register. By using the API, you agree to these API Terms in addition to the AHR website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Registration is required to help ensure appropriate and lawful use of the API and data. For purposes of clarity, the API is considered an “Online Service,” and the data provided through the API is considered “Content” under the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. In the event of a conflict between the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, these API Terms control.

Limited Use

You may only use the API and data for non-commercial and charitable, educational or scientific purposes. You may not sell, license, or commercially use the data in any way. Commercial use of the API and data is strictly prohibited.

Attribution Required

You must attribute America’s Health Rankings as the source of the data in any publications, reports, or other work using the data. You must include the dataset version number with the attribution to ensure transparency regarding the version of the dataset used. In some cases, additional attribution may be required for the underlying source(s) of the data. The data may originate from third-party sources, and information or metadata about the third-party sources will be available within the API itself. If you choose to use the data, you are solely responsible for complying with the applicable data source’s data use and attribution requirements. More information about attribution can be found in the API Documentation

Rate Limits

Usage of the API is subject to rate limits. Rate limits are in place to help ensure API access for all users and stable performance of the API. We may adjust rate limits as needed to support these objectives.

No Warranty

The API and data are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied. No warranty is provided regarding the API, data, or any applications or results of use of the API or data. Users assume all risk for selection and use of the API and data.

Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold the United Health Foundation and our Affiliates harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from or relating to your use of the API and data.

Termination

We may terminate your access to the API at any time for any reason. All terms will survive termination. We reserve the right to terminate access to anyone at any time to help ensure appropriate use of the API and data.

Modification of Terms

We may modify these API Terms at any time. Modifications will become effective immediately upon notice to you (which such notice includes posting on the America’s Health Rankings website). You should review these API Terms periodically. Your continued use of the API after modifications have been posted will constitute your acceptance of the modifications.
